Jack Petchey Awards Ceremony 2010

January 2010

On Monday 18th January all our Jack Petchey Award winners, from the previous year, and their friends and families were invited to a tri-borough Jack Petchey Annual Award celebration in Kensington Town Hall. Mayors from Westminster, Hammersmith and Fulham and Kensington and Chelsea were there to celebrate the achievements of 110 young achievers across all three boroughs. It was a real thrill to see our winners going up on stage to be presented with their medallions and shake hands with the Deputy Mayor of Westminster.

Established in 1999, The Jack Petchey Foundation gives grants to programmes that benefit young people aged 11-25. The scheme is a reward and recognition initiative which enables schools to celebrate the achievements of their young people as well as receive additional funding. The Foundation is eager to help young people take advantage of opportunities and play a full part in society. Achievement Awards are designed to recognise a wide range of achievement, it is not just about being clever, or gifted, but about putting the effort in and doing your best. The scheme works well because the students themselves are involved in nominating and selecting the winners. During the year our award winners have spent £1800 on the school, on things ranging from Music equipment, PE equipment, Maths revision resources and props for the school Drama production.

We are very proud of all of them and hope that they will inspire others in the school to raise their aspirations, believe in themselves and make a contribution to their society.
