Sixth Form Enrichment: Community Sports Award
The course is divided into eight units of work. Upon completing the units satisfactorily, the candidate must complete a minimum of ten hours of leadership experience. Candidates are expected to fulfil the leadership experience in their own time. Teachers will support the candidates in finding a suitable placement.
Units:
- Contributing to organising and delivering a sports activity session
- Establishing and maintaining a safe sporting activity
- Understanding the structure of sport and recreation in the UK/Home Country
- Understanding and leading fitness sessions
- Running sporting events and competitions based on principles and practice
- Adapting sports activities based on principles and practice
- Selecting, planning and leading an appropriate sporting activity Demonstration of leadership skills in the community
A Community Sports Leader Must:
- Consistently display high personal standards and project a favourable image as leader
- Respect the rights, dignity and worth of every human being
- Take all reasonable steps to ensure a safe working environment, one that participants find stimulating and which provides opportunities for enjoyment, challenge, achievement and therefore growth of confidence and self-esteem.
- Take active steps to improve her personal competence
- Recognise that participants are at the centre of the process and that effort should be directed at ensuring that the participants experience safe, enjoyable and purposeful activity
- Limit assistance to activities in which knowledge, skills and competence have been demonstrated to suitably qualified person.
