Sixth Form Enrichment: Young Enterprise Award (Level 2)
The Young Enterprise Scheme is an extremely successful and well established enrichment programme offered to the Year 12 students in the Sixth Form by the Business Studies Department. The students are given the opportunity to run their own company over the course of the academic year. They are invited to apply for specific positions to become a member of the board of directors at the beginning of the academic year. Once their application for a specific post has been accepted by the Link Teacher the team begin to raise share capita in order to market and finance a product or service of their own choice. During the year they get the opportunity to trade amongst real market traders in central London. In recent years the students have traded at Camden Market and at Covent Garden in the Apple Market. At the end of the year they liquidate the company and present a report and accounts at their Annual General Meeting (AGM). Formal recognition of the skills and abilities developed through the Young Enterprise Company Programme is offered via the O.C.R Young Enterprise Qualification which all students complete.
In 2006 twenty two participants worked hard to produce and market two very different products. They produced all occasion cards using recycled card and small hand bags using colourful Indian garments donated by the community. The programme has helped them develop practical skills including leadership, problem solving, working with others, communication and information technology. They use their valuable experiences and development of skills to support their university application. |
