Sixth Form Extra Curricular: Paired Reading Scheme

Paired Reading is a scheme which is overseen by the English Department but run entirely by Sixth Form Prefects to promote reading in Year 7. The scheme aims to build the confidence of students in Year 7 who struggle with reading, and to help those who do not enjoy reading to develop good reading habits and discover some excellent authors. The Sixth Form Prefects coordinate the many Sixth Formers who volunteer for the scheme, and pair them with Year 7 students who have been recommended for the scheme by their English teachers. Once a week during a lunch hour, the Year 7 students meet with their Sixth Form partner in the designated Paired Reading room. They practise reading aloud, discuss books and authors, and sometimes visit the library. The scheme has been running for two years and is a great success.
