2009 Prize Day

At the school’s annual Prize Giving on Thursday, 19th November, The Grey Coat Hospital warmly welcomed a former Head Girl to present the prizes and to address the audience. In 1964 – 1965, Jean Seaton’s thoughts were focused on her responsibilities as Head Girl and her delight in music and the beauty of Westminster Abbey to which GCH had introduced her. Now, in addition to being Professor of Media at Westminster University, Jean Seaton is also the Official Historian of the BBC and Director of the Orwell Prize. Though her years at GCH gave Jean a profound respect for duty, she felt that at that time the school appeared to lack gaiety and creativity. It is a very different scene in 2009.
