Why study ICT?

Information and Communications Technology is a fundamental part of our lives. The growth in the use of mobile phones, home computers and the internet is affecting the way we all live and work. GCSE ICT explores the use of ICT in society and gives students the essential background to work and live in a technological society.

Topics covered in the course:

• Tools, Techniques and Systems looks at how ICT tools and applications are used in different organisations, for example, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, web browsers, CAD software and multimedia packages.
• Information Systems in Society looks at how and why organisations use ICT and an investigation of the main hardware components of an ICT system.

Students will be assessed internally via an assignment and project (60% or mark) and at the end of the course there will be an exam (40% of mark).
