On a beautifully sunny March day our U12 football team travelled to Kidbrooke to face Thomas Tallis in the Quarter-Finals of the London Cup.
Thomas Tallis had been scoring for fun in previous rounds including a 10-1 victory over Sedgehill School which secured them a place in the Quarter-Finals so there was work to be done.
But we had worked on our defence and we successfully restricted the opposition to one long shot in the entire first half.
The girls played some great counter attacking football. They defended with structure and were very well organised and that frustrated Thomas Tallis and knocked them off their stride.
With ten minutes to go, Grey Coat played the perfect pass over the top of the opposition defence which allowed for a shot into the bottom corner.
The U12s defended with purpose, the tactics were well calculated and albeit a wonder goal from the opposition it was almost an immaculate defensive performance. The match ended 1-1 after extra-time and Grey Coat went on to win the penalty shoot-out 3-2.
