Chief Rabbi visits Grey Coat
26 January 2007
On Friday 26 January, Years 10 and 11 had a special assembly to mark the annual Holocaust Memorial Day. The Chief Rabbi of Great Britain, Sir Jonathan Sacks, was guest speaker at this assembly, along with Gena Turgel MBE, a survivor of the Holocaust.
A number of students were involved in readings and you can read Nadia El-Telbani's reading here.
Organised by the Holocaust Educational Trust, students listend to Gena as she recounted her experiences in Buchenwald, Bergen-Belsen and Auschwitz concentration camps during the Holocaust.
With the theme for this year focused on 'The Dignity of Difference' the Chief Rabbi in addressing the assembly said, " it takes a realisation that as each of us is different, we have something different to learn from, and give to, each other. That is how you fight hatred - and if you fight hatred, that is how you prevent a Holocaust. How our future is going to be, is in your hands."
With thanks to the Holocaust Educational Trust and our students involved:
