Business Studies celebrates Enterprise Week
November 2007
The Business Studies department celebrated Enterprise Week by inviting two young guest speakers to talk to the Year 10 Business Studies students about setting up their own business. The two young entrepreneurs were exceptional ambassadors for the girls. The first talk by Louise Gilliespie-Smith from Create Yourself was inspirational. The students were amazed to hear how she recently started her own business as an image consultant and life coach. She gave a detailed account of all the planning she did before setting up her own business. She discussed in detail the training courses she went on to help her provide expert advice to her clients on building their confidence in their personal and professional lives. The services provided include life coaching, personal training, image consultancy and personal shopping. They were really impressed with her business idea and got some interesting tips from how to dress for an interview to what colours suited different skin tones.
The second presentation by Kirsty Joly was equally impressive. Her business venture, known as Perfectly Tempered, consisted of handmade artisan chocolates to discerning individuals and corporate clients that were looking for that delicious unique treat. The students were exceptional in asking specific questions that kept everyone engaged and wanting to know more. They got the opportunity to sample the chocolate and were very impressed with the quality and final finish of each piece of chocolate.
The students were inspired by the determination, commitment and hard work Louise and Kirsty had shown in their business ventures. Well done to all the girls who participated in the question and answer session.
