Year 8 Activity Weekend in the Lake District
In October, thirty Year 8 students were offered the wonderful opportunity of visiting the Lake District for an adventure packed weekend, partly funded by the London Challenge. Here are some of the students accounts of their experiences:
On 12th October 2007 a group of enthusiastic Grey Coat girls and three teachers set off for the Lake District for a fun and packed weekend. We got on the coach and watched a few films provided by Miss Kirkaldy and then we had a quiz made by Mr Stevenson! The 6-hour drive there lasted for ages. When we got there we were allocated rooms with bunk beds and then we had dinner and went to bed. The next two days were jam-packed with lots of exciting things to do – abseiling, ghyll scrambling (very wet but really fun), rock climbing and hill walking. On the last night we had awards and certificates given out and an extremely funny talent show with Miss Kirkaldy’s mum as special guest! When it was time to leave, we were all very sad to go, but unfortunately we had to.

“I think that the Lake District was fantastic. Everything was great and I even challenged myself to go ahead and do abseiling as I am terrified of heights”.
“On the last night, each dorm was given the task of creating and performing either a poem, speech, dance or play about our time in the Lake District. It was hilarious - we all came up with very strange yet brilliant ideas. We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and made the most of our time in the Lake District, although it was sad to leave but it was nice to get home and have a hot bath and a cup of tea!”
