Alan Dane, Head of RE, teaches Palestinian refugee schools in Lebanon
Our Head of RE, Alan Dane, continued his charity work for Education Action International (EAI) by spending his May half term break in Lebanon visiting schools and teaching in refugee camps. EAI work with partner organisations in areas affected by conflict, such as Africa and the Middle East, and ensure that refugees and other groups receive the basic human right of education.

Most of Alan’s time was spent in the Shatila camp in Beirut where he witnessed some of the most inspiring teaching he had ever seen, in spite of the difficult situation faced by these people and their lack of resources.

The school has pledged to raise at least £3,000 for the Education Action. Should you like to make a donation please visit Alan’s fundraising site at www.justgiving.com/alandane.

International May Fair
On Saturday 20th May, The Grey Coat Hospital held its annual International May Fair. Each form at the school hosted a stall inspired by countries of the world including Australia, India, Egypt, Mexico, Chile, Japan, Columbia and various Caribbean Islands and the students had prepared for the Fair by learning about the culture and traditions of their chosen country.

Due to the wet weather the fair had to be held inside the Hall and Gym at the school but that didn’t stop the fun. Students wore international costumes and there were great activities such as face painting, hair braiding, palm ‘reading’, dance and drama performances and delicious foods inspired by the countries on sale.

Japan Exchange
Five of our Year 10 students got the chance to visit their exchange partners in Chiyoda, near Tokyo,in Japan over the May half term. In preparation for their trip the girls have Japanese lessons and learn to liaise with their partner via email. The Grey Coat Hospital has been running this exchange trip for six years.
