GCH student challenges the Prime Minister as Journalist for The Times
July 2010
In July, Year 10 student Miriam Harris had the wonderful experience of writing her first piece of journalism for The Times whilst on work experience at the newspaper.
Miriam’s work experience placement fell in the same week as David Cameron’s interview with a Sunday newspaper in which he commented that he was ‘petrified of sending his children to a state secondary school’. Grey Coat, being the closest state secondary school to number 10, subsequently spent much of the following day fielding press calls who all wanted a comment from Rachel Allard as the Headteacher of our outstanding state school, located just around the corner from David Cameron’s home.
The Times happened to have the luck of having one of our students there on a work experience placement – Miriam - who they then invited to write a piece on life at Grey Coat, challenging the Prime Minister with her positive facts and opinion on her school. The article was published in The Times on 13th July 2010.
