The Grey Coat Hospital - GCSE Results 2022

We are delighted to celebrate the achievements of our Year 11 students with them. They have worked extremely hard throughout their GCSE years, within the context of unprecedented disruption and uncertainty. They have shown exceptional resilience, focus and determination throughout this time and we are very proud of them all!

Earlier in the academic year, the exams regulator OFQUAL advised all schools that grade boundaries this summer would be set at around half-way point between the 2021 and 2019 boundaries, in order to mitigate the adverse impact of the pandemic and to return to the 2019 grade distribution next year.

We are very proud to report that The Grey Coat Hospital GCSE and BTEC results 2022 have not only remained high at all levels but have, in fact, exceeded our summer 2021 Teacher Assessed Grades. This is a testimony to the expert quality of teaching and assessment that takes place at our school; the high level of academic and pastoral support given by our staff; the continued hard work and resilience of our students; and the strong support of our parents.

Our provisional grades (adjustments may follow as a result of re-marks) are below and include a comparison between this year, last year and 2019.

Our overall percentage of GCSE pass grades 9-4 was 96.9% compared with a national average of 73% in 2022. This continues a long-standing tradition of our students attaining well above the national average and a huge “well done” goes to every individual who achieved this.

Additionally, we are celebrating our students’ amazing achievements in the following areas:

  • The percentage of grades 9-4 in English and Mathematics at GCH was 95.1% (94.5% in 2021 and 90.8% in 2019)
  • The percentage of grades 9-5 in English and Mathematics was 81.5% (75.5% in 2021 and 73% in 2019)
  • The percentage of grades 9-7 was 62% (54% in 2021, 45.9% in 2019). Our students have therefore hugely outperformed the national average which stands at 26% grades 9-7 for 2022
  • 66% (65% in 2021 and 57.9% in 2019) of our students achieved the English Baccalaureate with all grades 9 to 5.

97% of our students (compared to 65% in England in 2022) took examinations in eight or more subjects, with a majority taking 10 or more GCSEs. A third of the students at GCH who took eight or more GCSEs attained all grades 9-7 in their subjects, which is a tremendous achievement. Many congratulations to all those individuals!

Several of our students deserve a special mention as ALL their GCSE results were grades 9 and/ or 8. These individuals include:

  • Alice Gelosi: thirteen grades 9 and one grade 8
  • Louise Berthier: thirteen grades 9
  • Fahima Amiri: twelve grades 9
  • Eva Knightley: twelve grades 9

To put this in context, of those students who took exams in 12 or more GCSE subjects, only 13 students gained all grades 9 in England in 2022.

  • Samara Benjamin: eleven grades 9 and one grade 8
  • Natasha Chambers: eleven grades 9 and one grade 8
  • Maya Rybin: eleven grades 9 and one grade 8; Maya has also attained the highest score nationally of any candidate taking English Language with the OCR examination board!
  • Elodie Bain: ten grades 9 and two grades 8
  • Darcey Brown: nine grades 9 and three grades 8
  • Rose Martin: nine grades 9 and three grades 8
  • Lucy Barker: nine grades 9 and two grades 8
  • Elsie Kyei-Gyamfi: nine grades 9 and one grade 8
  • Amy Baldwin: eight grades 9 and four grades 8
  • Oreoluwa Adenigbagbe: eight grades 9 and three grades 8
  • Maia Avery: eight grades 9 and three grades 8
  • Elsie Lunn: seven grades 9 and five grades 8
  • Ella Gill: five grades 9 and six grades 8
  • Maxine Guitarte: five grades 9 and six grades 8
  • Charlie Sutherland: four grades 9 and six grades 8

Most of our students will take up places to study A-Levels in our Sixth Form. We look forward very much to welcoming them back to school in September, and to seeing them flourish and grow.

Others will take up courses at institutions elsewhere, suited to their interests and ambitions, and we look forward to hearing how they get on. Our door is always open for our Old Greys!

We would like to thank all our students for the many contributions they have made to life at The Grey Coat Hospital over the past few years, and wish them every success, happiness and fulfilment in the future.

A huge “thank you” is due to all our staff, who have worked passionately and tirelessly to support our students throughout their courses, both academically and pastorally, and who inspired them to maintain the highest aspirations in the most difficult circumstances.

Grey Coat Students - A Level Results Summer 2022

We are delighted to share the achievements of our Summer 2022 cohort of A-Level students. They have worked extremely hard, and we are very proud of them - the more so as they have had to experience unprecedented disruption and uncertainty over the past two years. They have shown exceptional resilience, focus and determination. This summer, students took public examinations again for the first time since 2019, having missed out on the chance to sit their GCSE examinations, and it was wonderful to celebrate their results and next steps with them today.

The exams regulator OFQUAL had advised all schools that grade boundaries this year would be set at a half-way point between the 2021 and 2019 boundaries, in order to mitigate the disruption caused by the pandemic.

The Grey Coat Hospital A-Level results 2022 have remained high at all levels and are very close to our summer 2021 Teacher Assessed Grades. This is a testimony to the quality of expert teaching and high level of academic and pastoral support by our staff, the hard work of our students and the support of our parents. We are therefore extremely pleased to share our provisional grades (adjustments may follow as a result of re-marks) with you, showing the comparison between this year, last year and 2019.

  • A*/A grades 50.1% (54.4% last year, 35.7% in 2019) - national 36.4% in 2022
  • A*-B grades 77.9% (79.6% last year, 63.8% in 2019) - national 62.8% in 2022
  • A*-C grades 90% (91.7% last year, 84.5% in 2019) - national 82.6% in 2022
  • A*-E grades 99.5% (100% last year, 98.8% in 2019) - national 98.4% in 2022

In total, we had 140 students in Year 13. Of the 114 Year 13 students who applied to university this academic year, four students have gained places at Oxford or Cambridge and 60 have so far secured places at the highly competitive Russell Group universities. All our students will go on to take up places at a range of excellent institutions. Some will embark on Art or Design Foundation courses, and others will undertake high-quality apprenticeships or a planned GAP year.

Three students have gained places at Oxford University - Hester Edwards will read Theology & Religion, Ella Osbourne will study Classics and Nadia Zouaoui will read Arabic. Furthermore, Victorious-Benedicta Olamona has gained a place at Cambridge University to study Medicine.
