The Grey Coat Hospital

Church of England Comprehensive School for Girls

The school offers students the chance to study Latin as a third language option from GCSE level, beginning in Year 10.

This is a two year accelerated course and although no previous knowledge of the language is necessary, it is more suitable for those with a natural aptitude for languages. We use the Cambridge Latin course books in conjunction with other materials.

The Latin GCSE course is particularly special because we look at Latin Literature, reading, translating & discussing the same poetry and prose that Shakespeare would have studied in his Latin lessons 450 years ago.

Latin has proved a great success at the school with excellent results - 100% of students gained an A*-B grade at GCSE level in 2015 and 50% attained A*.
