The Grey Coat Hospital - GCSE Results 2025
It has been wonderful to celebrate the achievements of our GCSE and Cambridge National (CNAT) students today. Between them, they have achieved another set of outstanding results, well above the national average, and we are incredibly proud of them all. This achievement continues a long-standing tradition of placing our students’ performance in the top 10% of non-selective schools nationally.
This brilliant outcome is a testimony to the expert teaching, pastoral care and guidance given by our staff; the hard work and resilience of our students; and the unwavering support of our parents and carers.
Please note that these are provisional results which may change once any re-marks are completed.
-
91.6% of GCSEs in English and Mathematics were graded 9-4
-
78.9% of GCSEs in English and Mathematics were graded 9-5
-
Our overall pass rate at grades 9-4 was 93.6% - 71.6% in all London schools and 67.1% in England
-
Our overall pass rate at grades 9-5 was 84.9%
-
Over half of all our results (54%) were graded 9 to 7 – 28.4% in all London schools and 23% in England
We have many amazing individual successes to celebrate, all of which are rooted in the students’ consistently excellent effort and a strong desire to achieve their personal best; and some of which were achieved in the face of considerable personal challenges. We are extremely proud of all our students!
Impressively, 130/166 (78.3%) students at GCH took 10 or more GCSEs in 2025. By contrast, only 11.7% of students in England took 10 GCSEs or more in 2025. Of those, 38 of our students gained at least ten grades 9-7, which is a tremendous achievement as only 15.2% of students in England achieved a suite of such high grades.
Three of our students achieved all grades 9, having taken twelve or thirteen GCSE subjects. This is truly exceptional when considering that only 1.6% of all students in England took 11 or more subjects at GCSE in 2025; and only 0.1% took 12 GCSEs or more; of those, only 315 students in England gained all grades 9.

Notably, across the cohort, 164/166 (98.7%) of our students took examinations in eight or more subjects this year compared to only 25.3% of students in England. Of those, 17% of our students attained grades 9-7 in all their subjects, and 80% gained grades 9-4 in all their subjects, which is a fantastic achievement and testifies to the ethos of high ambition and hard work in our school.
Most of our students will take up places to study A-Levels in our Sixth Form. We look forward very much to welcoming them back to school in September, and to seeing them flourish and grow. Others will take up courses at institutions elsewhere, suited to their interests and ambitions, and we look forward to hearing how they get on. Our door is always open for our Old Greys!
A huge “thank you” goes to all our staff, who have worked tirelessly to support our students throughout their courses and who inspired them to maintain the highest aspirations.
The Grey Coat Hospital - A Level Results Summer 2025
It has been wonderful to celebrate the achievements of our summer 2025 cohort of A-Level students today, who between them have achieved the best public examination results the school has seen since 2018. These results are a testimony to the expert teaching, pastoral care and guidance given by our staff; the hard work and resilience of our students; and the unwavering support of our parents and carers.
We are also delighted that the school’s A Level results continue to be above the averages of all secondary schools in London and schools nationally. While the percentage of top grades has risen nationally, too, the exams regulator OFQUAL states: “It is important to emphasise that while each year’s cohort of students will be slightly different, the standard of work needed to get a particular grade remains comparable with previous years.”
Please note that all results are provisional and may change after re-marks.

A*/A grades 41.7% (40.9% in 2024) – 31.1% in all London schools in 2025, 28.2% in England 2025
-

-
A*-C grades 91.7% (86.3% in 2024) - 79.5% in all London schools in 2025
-

In total, we had 140 students in Year 13 and 126 applied for a university place. Seventeen Year 14 and Year 15 students also applied to university through us, leading to a total of 143 applications. Our students will again take their places at a range of excellent and sought-after institutions, with 71 students so far securing courses at highly competitive Russell Group universities including eight places at Oxford and Cambridge. Three students are going on to high-quality apprenticeships and five students have secured art foundation places. The remaining students will take planned gap years.
We have had many amazing individual successes to celebrate, all of which are rooted in the students’ consistently excellent effort and a strong desire to achieve their personal best; and some of which were achieved in the face of considerable personal challenges.
The following students deserve a special mention for their exceptional academic results in comparison to the national picture. In the whole of England in 2025, only 3,890 students (2.1%) who took three A Levels managed to attain three A* grades; and only 5.2% of all A-Level students took more than three A Levels. Below, you can see all those GCH students who achieved at least three A grades in their A level subjects.
