GSCE Examination Results Summer 2021

We are delighted to celebrate the achievements of our Year 11 students. They have worked extremely hard throughout their GCSE course - the more so as they have had to experience unprecedented disruption and uncertainty. They have shown exceptional resilience, focus and determination throughout this time, and we are very proud of them all.

The grades our students were awarded this summer are based on a range of exam-style assessments, covering the full range of assessment objectives and the majority, if not all, of the specification content. These assessments were marked and moderated rigorously within school, and further moderated externally. The awarded grades therefore represent genuinely what students know and can do at the end of their GCSE courses. “Teachers know what their students can do, and in the absence of formal exams, there is no person or system better placed to fairly judge young people’s abilities.” (Gavin Williamson, Education Secretary, quoted in The Guardian, 9th August 2021)

Overall, our students’ GCSE results have remained consistently high at all levels, and we are delighted that:

• 94.5% of our students achieved grades 9-4 in English and Mathematics

• 75.5% of our students achieved grades 9-5 in English and Mathematics

• 65% of our students achieved the English Baccalaureate at grades 9 to 5

Over half (53.9%) of our students’ GCSE grades were at 9-7 and an amazing 29 of our students attained all their GCSEs at grades 9 to 7; these include:

Most of our students will take up places to study A-Levels in our Sixth Form. We look forward very much to welcoming them back to school in September, and to seeing them flourish and grow. Others will take up courses at institutions elsewhere, suited to their interests and ambitions; and we look forward to hearing how they get on.

We would like to thank all our students for the many contributions they have made to life at The Grey Coat Hospital over time and wish them every success, happiness and fulfilment in the future.

A huge “thank you” also goes to all our staff, who have worked tirelessly to support the students throughout their courses, and to inspire them to do their very best in often adverse circumstances.
