Duke of Edinburgh Award

“I would actively encourage young people to get involved in extracurricular activities and volunteering. Achieving a DofE Award is a brilliant way to gain recognition for all the effort put in and shows potential employers a candidate has great communication, confidence and teamwork skills, which are indispensable in the workplace.”  Deborah Meaden, British business woman and Dragons' Den star.

The Duke of Edinburgh Award has been run at The Grey Coat Hospital for over 30 years. We run all three awards: Bronze in Year 10, Silver in Year 11 and Gold in Sixth Form. As part of the award, students take part in three weekly activities: volunteering in the community, taking part in a physical activity and developing a skill. They also plan and complete an expedition, during which they are entirely self-sufficient, camping and walking in the countryside. Students taking part in the Award develop and demonstrate their ability to work with others, communicate well, learn new skills, and work as part of a team.
