Music Opportunities

The Music Department offers a wide range of extra-curricular activities, including:

  • School Choir
  • Orchestra
  • Junior Jazz Band
  • Senior Jazz and Soul Band
  • Guitar ensemble
  • Junior Strings
  • Musical Theatre Ensemble

These ensembles and choirs rehearse on a weekly basis during lunchtimes and after school; they are given many performance opportunities, including concerts, recitals, services and other events. Students of all abilities and experience are encouraged to be part of an extra-curricular ensemble at The Grey Coat Hospital.

Music is an important part of Collective Worship and our students attend services at Westminster Abbey, St. Margaret’s Church and St. Stephen’s Church. Students in our choirs and ensembles provide all of the music for these services.

At The Grey Coat Hospital we also offer one-to-one instrumental and vocal lessons. Students can apply to have lessons in any of the following instruments:

  • Piano
  • Voice
  • Strings: violin, viola, cello
  • Woodwind: clarinet, saxophone, oboe, flute
  • Brass: trumpet, trombone, French horn
  • Guitar: classical guitar, electric guitar, bass guitar
  • Drum kit

The Music Department hosts ABRSM exams twice a year, giving students the opportunity to take these exams in school.
